Pact's new website is now LIVE! Migration guide and what's to come

Pact 6 min read

Pact is out of beta. The new site is live, running on a new generation of contracts, and it is the foundation for everything we have been building toward: concentrated liquidity, governance, and the products we have been teasing all year.

There is one thing for liquidity providers to do: migrate your positions before September 21. Here is the short version, then the full picture underneath.

Quick migration guide

The in-app reminder counts down to the deadline.
You'll see this banner in-app until you've migrated.

Who needs to do anything? Only liquidity providers. If you just swap on Pact, the router already handles everything, so there is nothing to do.

The steps:

  1. Open Pools or your Dashboard. Positions that need to move are flagged.
  2. Filter by generation to show only what still needs migrating.
  3. Migrate into the new pool, or if it does not exist yet, create it.

Where a new-generation pool already exists for your pair, migrating redeems your LP tokens from the old pool and deposits them into the new one in a single transaction group, so nothing sits in limbo in between.

New pools are rolling out over time, and some will need to be created by users. If the destination for your pair is not live yet, you can create it yourself from the Pools page rather than waiting.

Creating a pool? Check your ratio. When you create a pool you set its opening price, and the first deposit defines it. Verify the ratio of the two assets against the current market price before you confirm. A pool seeded at the wrong ratio is an immediate arbitrage opportunity, at your expense. The same care applies when adding to a thin pool.

Filter the pool list by generation to find what still needs to move.
Filter by New, Migrate, or Deprecated.

Farming? Unstake first (pending rewards harvest automatically in the same flow), then migrate. See the farms section below, because the timing matters.

What happens on September 21

Legacy pools are marked Deprecated. From that date:

  • Trading still works. Deprecated pools stay accessible and you can still swap against them. They simply stop receiving the improvements shipping to the new contracts.
  • You cannot add liquidity. Deposits into legacy pools close. Withdrawals stay open.
  • Withdrawals are never restricted. Your funds are not locked, on the 21st or ever. Pact is non-custodial and that does not change.

Miss the date and you have lost nothing. You can still withdraw and move across whenever you like. You will simply have spent the gap earning less than you could have.

Farms

The current farms end September 1, and they only accept OLD LP tokens. They will not recognise new-generation LP tokens. On September 1 a new round of farms deploys, and those reward the NEW LP tokens.

So the clean sequence is:

  • Farm as normal until September 1 on your existing LP
  • Unstake (rewards auto-harvest), migrate your position
  • Stake the new LP into the new farms when they open on September 1

Migrate before then and you are ready the moment the new farms go live, with no gap in incentives.

What actually shipped

Why a migration at all?

Pact's contracts are immutable. That is a feature: nobody, including us, can reach in and change the rules under your position. The trade-off is that upgrades cannot be patched in place. A better pool means a genuinely new contract, deployed fresh, with liquidity moved across deliberately by the people who own it.

More efficient, more flexible pools

The new contract generation is leaner per swap and far more flexible in what a pool can be. It is what makes weighted pools, stable pools, and concentrated liquidity able to live side by side under one router and one analytics layer, instead of as bolted-on special cases.

New-generation pools are also designed so the ALGO inside them can participate in Algorand consensus, earning yield on top of swap fees, which legacy contracts simply leave on the table.

An ecosystem-wide swap router

This is the part we are proudest of, and the part that sounds strange at first.

Pact's router finds you the best price across Algorand, including on our competitors' pools. If another venue has the better fill, the router routes there, or splits the order across several venues to get you a better blended price than any single one could.

We would rather be the place you always start your swap than the place that quietly gives you a worse price to protect our own liquidity. Best execution wins.

Better analytics, faster site

Rebuilt analytics across pools, farms and the protocol as a whole, with real historical data behind them rather than point-in-time snapshots. And the whole app is dramatically faster, genuine page loads instead of spinners.

What's coming

Concentrated liquidity

Our focus is now entirely on clMM, and it is the biggest thing we have ever shipped.

Instead of spreading your deposit thinly across every price from zero to infinity, where most of it sits idle, clMM lets you concentrate capital in the range that actually trades. The same deposit provides far deeper liquidity where it matters, and earns a much larger share of the fees.

For traders that means tighter prices and less slippage on Algorand. For LPs it means your capital finally works as hard as you do.

Public testnet opens in the coming weeks. Unifying liquidity on the new contracts is exactly what makes that depth real instead of fragmented across generations, which is why this migration is happening now rather than later.

Governance

Governance is coming, and the new contract generation is what it plugs into. More on structure and timing soon.

Partners and liquidity

We are in active conversations with partners around liquidity deployments on the new pools. Nothing is signed yet and we will not pretend otherwise. The interest is real, and a single unified contract generation is what makes those conversations possible in the first place. We will announce specifics when there are specifics to announce.

The checklist

  • Check Pools or your Dashboard for flagged positions
  • Farmers: farm until September 1, then unstake, migrate, and restake into the new farms
  • Migrate every position before September 21
  • Swappers: nothing to do

Most positions move in a single step, and Pact comes out the other side on the strongest foundation it has ever had, right as concentrated liquidity arrives.

See you on the new contracts.
